Champion Hill

This course stands out as one of the most scenic courses in the state with terrific views of Crystal Lake, Lake Michigan, and the Sleeping Bear Dunes. It also deserves recognition for providing one of the best values in the state. While Champion Hill will never offer the test of golf of some of the private or resort courses nearby like Arcadia Bluffs, Kingsley Club, or Crystal Downs, it deserves a spot on the roster for any northern MI golf experience. It is a great opener to any golf trip as the sandy soil and sloping greens allow a golfer a chance to fine tune their game in a low-cost and low-key setting. Despite the terrific price, there is some truly great golf on this course. Holes that stand out include the short par 4 2nd, the dramatically downhill dog-leg right par 5 5th, the terrific point-to-point par 3 8th, and the beautiful and downhill par 4 15th hole which sports a very fun multi-tiered green. Holes that offer postcard worthy photo opportunities include the 4th, 8th, 12th, and 15th. The course sports an unusual finish of back-to-back par 5’s. These are both risk reward holes that offer fun challenges in a less dramatic part of the property. In a golf-rich part of the state, Champion Hill out-punches its weight class and is an attractive alternative for the golfer on a budget.
